Overhead gantry cranes are very common across the UK and are widely used in a variety of industries such as heavy engineering, manufacturing, and industrial environments.
A gantry crane is a type of overhead crane with a single or double girder configuration supported by freestanding legs that move on wheels or along a track or rail system.

OVERHEAD GANTRY CRANE COURSE
Course Duration = 1 - 2 days (depending on experience levels)
Course Outline - At Direct Lifting Solutions we deliver training that gives delegates the required skills to safely operate overhead cranes safely and efficiently and tailor the courses to suit your own environment. Our Training courses are designed to meet the latest standards set by the accrediting bodies association – workplace Transport (ABA) and are delivered by experienced AITT accredited instructors.
Course Aims:
Course Aims:
- To have a basic understanding of relevant regulations such as HASWA 1974, PUWER 1998 AND LOLER 1998.
- To have a basic understanding of their responsibilities as an operator and hazard awareness within the industry.
- To identify the main components of the crane and their functions.
- The importance of PPE.
- The roles of Banksman, slinger, load handler and crane operator.
- Importance of LOLER focal points
- Correct storage and use of lifting equipment.
- Identifying lifting equipment defects.
- Conduct pre-use checks in accordance with relevant legislation.
- Practical use and safe operation of Cranes.

What type of training do I require?
At Direct Lifting Solutions we understand that organising the required training may not be as straight forward as you think, with this in mind we have some key points to help with this when organising gantry crane training for your personnel.
- Novice Course = This is delivered to delegates who have little or no experience.
- Experienced Course = This is delivered to delegates who have experience but no formal training
- Conversion Course = This is delivered to delegates who have certified experience on other Forklift trucks but require training on counterbalance.
- Refresher Course = This is delivered to delegates who have for operators who have been certified for over 3 years and require their training refreshed.
