MEWPs (mobile elevating work platforms also known as cherry pickers or scissor lifts), are a type of aerial work platform that involves a bucket or surface at the end of a hydraulic lifting system. The bucket of the cherry picker lift is attached to a telescopic arm, which can be raised and positioned.
The Accrediting Bodies Association (ABA) categorises MEWP’S into four main groups; - 1A (Trailer Mounted Aerial Lifts) - 1B (Vehicle Mounted Aerial Lifts) - 3A (Scissor Lifts) - 3B (Mobile Boom) These groups classify the different capabilities of the machines which can differ significantly in weight, height, dimensions and capacity and the operating environment can also vary significantly.
For both safety and compliance employers must ensure the operators undergo suitable and sufficient training for the machine type they are required to operate so Direct lifting solutions has put together a course which covers all relevant points required for safe and competent operation of these machines.
